![]() ![]() Bixler-Zavala sings softly as he sets the stage with poetic remembrances. A blend of jazz fusion, progressive rock, ambience, and post-hardcore (with a few touches of Latin flair), De-Loused begins with “Son Et Lumiere”, a sorrowful and indulging touch of Floydian dreaminess. Musically, the band was already light years beyond At the Drive-In. As Brice rightly points out, De-Loused set a musical template for the group that they’d alter slightly with each new release while still staying true to the core mechanics established here. Also, De-Loused in the Comatorium includes the first guest appearance of Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, Flea, and guitarist, John Frusciante. In addition, the title comes from the lyrics of “Eunuch Provocateur”, the closing track of their Tremulant EP. The first of several concept albums, the record revolves around Cerpin Taxt, a man who spends a week in a coma after overdosing on morphine and rat poison (it was inspired by the death of Bixler-Zavala’s friend Julio Venegas). Jordan Blum: Simply put, the Mars Volta’s initial LP is a mind-blowing introduction, as well as one of the best debuts I’ve ever heard. No other band has ever accomplished what the Mars Volta did, and it’s unlikely that any other ever will. In light of their recent disbandment, PopMatters’ Jordan Blum and Brice Ezell have decided to look back on the Mars Volta’s studio output in commemoration of their illustrious career. Full of arresting counterpoints, relentless complexity, entrancing melodies, and wildly imaginative (if also incoherent) imagery, their work was unique, prophetic, and downright addictive. Formed out of the ashes of post-hardcore Texan outfit At the Drive-In (whose other three members went on to form indie rock band Sparta) by guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López and vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala in 2001, the ensemble continuously broken boundaries, challenged expectations, and blew minds with their blend of power, intricacy, conceptuality, catchiness, and eccentricity. His birth opened up the `Piscean Age’ of spirit and the interconnectedness of all.Of all the progressive rock groups that have come and/or gone over the last several decades, few - if any - have been as idiosyncratic and audacious as the Mars Volta. Jesus the Christ revolutionized the world by imploring we forgive our enemies. Pisces truly sees the `oneness’ of this life’s experience. Pisces is known for its unlimited compassion and open hearted forgiveness. The negative Pisces is the escape artist relinquishing the responsibility of living in the `real world’ preferring to symbolically `float through life.’ Sometimes Pisces falls prey to addictive activities….imbibing alcohol `spirits’, when they would be better off pursuing truly spiritual activities. Pisces problems include confusion, being a victim or martyr, or having weak or no boundaries with others. Who’s to say what is the one and only correct way to interpret a piece of classical music, a poem, a dance?Īs with any energy there are pitfalls. Pisces deals with potentials and that which is `not fully formed’. Since Pisces deals with the subtle symbolism of meaning it makes sense that aspects of life which are open to interpretation belong to the Pisces realm. ![]() The arts, especially music, dance and poetry are Pisces ruled. Similar to its water cousin, Scorpio, Pisces deals with the unconscious, desires, dreams, and symbolism. That which we cannot see `clearly’, like our `psyche’ ,is Pisces ruled. The glyph for Neptune, the trident, adorns psychology offices the world over. Pisces’ planetary ruler is the ancient god of the seas Neptune. Two brilliant men of science who changed the world were Pisces, namely, Einstein and Steve Jobs. This doesn’t mean that Pisces lacks intelligence they just use `both of their brains’ with ease. It’s easier for them to trust their `right-brained’ guidance. A person with strong Pisces is generally more `psychic’ and spiritual than others. ![]() Where you find Pisces is where you swim in the realm of intuition, emotional connections, sensitivity and empathy. Herein lies the strength and inclusivity of Pisces. Our bodies are made up of mostly water it’s the medium that holds us and everything all together. Life on the planet originated from the sea, and, where there is water there is life. Pisces represents the world of spirit, potential, dreams, intuition, inspiration and `all that is’. In some ways you can say it’s the sign with the`most meaning’ because it encapsulates the entire potential of reality. Pisces the fish is the last but not least of the zodiac. ![]()
